Brief Summary A collaborative card-based tool with a Figma plugin to seamlessly integrate ethical considerations ("nudges") into the design process, prompting designers to consider broader societal and environmental impacts.
Duration
1 month
Overview
The design industry often prioritizes short-term user needs over long-term consequences. This project aims to empower designers to be moral agents by offering tools that nudge them towards ethical considerations throughout the design process.
Approach
To address the ethical gap in design, I adopted nudge theory. Researching designer behavior and prioritizing user-centered principles led to a seamless, iterative design process into which the solution can be integrated.
Identifying the ethical gap
While “improving people’s live” is at the heard of human-centered design, the practice of design within the design industry prioritizes the users’ needs over profit. “How might we” and “what if” have become fundamentally narrow as they overemphasize the individual direct user, without taking into account broader and longer-term consequences.
User-centered design & research
Transforming theory into practical application
↓ Collaborative trigger cards: lower barrier for entry, applicable to all audience, serves to educate on the need to foresee unintended consequences and
↑ Figma plugin: integrating the nudge into designers’ existing workflows
Outcomes
🚀 Quantifiable adoption by colleagues following a seamless integration and minimal disruption to existing workflows.
☘️ Reduced bias within my future projects (at Octopia), leading to more inclusive and equitable design solutions.

Exploring the format meant re-assessing if there was a need for a digital application to the card concept. By testing and prototyping the user flow and interface, it became clear that an app isn’t needed. Instead, an integration of the concept into existing design tools would be ideal.
